Dear Colleagues,
Happy 2025 to All of You!
Let us start this new year in SIDO with renewed enthusiasm.
As President for 2025, I hope that the ongoing issues, currently affecting our Society for the first time, will soon be resolved. Integrity and transparency towards our Members, along with strict adherence to the Bylaw, are fundamental principles that cannot and must not be compromised. My primary objective is to restore harmony, with the support of the Colleagues of the SIDO Board, to fulfill fully the mandate entrusted to us by our Members.
The 2025 scientific program aims to translate the results of scientific research into clinical practice, ensuring effective, efficient, and safe treatments for our patients. The three key words guiding our scientific activities, therefore, will be Evidence, Effectiveness, and Efficiency. The program will include the usual main events: the Spring Meeting and the International Congress. Both events will provide opportunities for direct interaction between participants and speakers through roundtables and moderated discussion sessions.
Spring Meeting – March 21-22, 2025, Florence
The Spring Meeting will take place at the prestigious Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, with sessions held in a single venue, the Zubin Mehta Auditorium. The main theme will focus on the efficacy of skeletal anchorage compared to conventional anchorage in dentofacial orthopedics for the treatment of maxillary transverse deficiency, Class II malocclusion due to mandibular retrusion, and Class III malocclusion. On this occasion, an International Delphi Study (Consensus Conference) will be published, offering authoritative guidance to our Members and a valuable reference for speakers. The Spring Meeting will also include social events, such as the President’s Reception and the SIDO Party, hosted at the Theater.
56th International Congress – November 20-22, 2025, Florence
The 56th International Congress will take place at Fortezza da Basso, with session held in two main halls. In line with the scientific approach and the key words, the central themes will include:
Additionally, there will be a multidisciplinary SIDO-SIdP session on the treatment of gummy smiles, comparing orthodontic, periodontal, and maxillofacial surgical solutions. On Thursday, the usual pre-congress courses will take place, featuring two full-day thematic courses led by internationally renowned speakers and two “hands-on” courses (one in collaboration with the Italian Society of Biomechanics and Segmented Orthodontics, SIBOS) aimed particularly at young professionals.
We will also continue to dedicate attention to other vital professionals in our field, including dental hygienists, chairside assistants, and orthodontic technicians. The President’s Reception and the SIDO Party will be held in the beautiful setting of the Stazione Leopolda.
Both events will include poster sessions to showcase the contributions from our Members, with awards for the best clinical and scientific posters. Special attention will be given to young professionals through specific initiatives developed in collaboration with the SIDO Young Committee. Reduced membership and congress registration fees will also be available for Members under 30 years of age and orthodontic residents.
Projects for the 2025-2026 Biennium
In collaboration with Daniela Garbo, President for 2026, we aim to develop the following initiatives:
Members will continue to benefit from free continuing education packages through distance learning (FAD) and Study Clubs, ensuring the fulfillment of the 50 annual CE credits required.
Our journal, Progress in Orthodontics, remains the leader in its field, with an impact factor of 3.5. After 12 years of outstanding service, Prof. Ravindra Nanda has resigned as Editor-in-Chief and has been appointed Editor Emeritus. Starting in March 2025, the journal will be led by Prof. Nikolaos Pandis, a world-renowned expert in research methodology. We are confident that under his guidance, the journal will continue to grow and maintain its international prestige.
I encourage everyone to actively participate in our Society’s activities: the success of SIDO depends on the commitment and collaboration of each of us.
Warm regards,
Lorenzo Franchi
SIDO President 2025
